Watch The Trailer For Beyoncé’s Upcoming Netflix Film, “Homecoming”

Beyoncé made history at 2018 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Her performance was so groundbreaking, fans dubbed it Beychella. Now, that historical moment has another gift for the Beyhive. Netflix announced a film that follows everything that went into Beyoncé’s unforgettable 2018 Coachella performance. It is called Homecoming: A Film By Beyoncé.

Beyoncé’s performance of Beychella marked a number of milestones for the singer. It was the first time a black woman headlined Coachella in the festival’s history. It was also the first time a Coachella performance was broadcast outside of the official Coachella YouTube stream. This served as a victory lap after the birth of the superstar’s twins, Rumi and Sir, which prompted her to cancel her Coachella appearance in 2017.

Everything to know about Homecoming: A Film By Beyoncé

Here’s everything we know about the film so far.

Homecoming unveils a close-up perspective of the very private popstar while preparing for her headlining festival performance. The Beychella performance paid tribute to the Black experience in America while honouring historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

The film is set for release on Netflix on 17th April at 9 pm Nigerian time.

In anticipation of its release, Netflix released an official trailer for the film. This came after they shared a social media announcement Sunday morning that featured the word “homecoming.” The snippet features behind-the-scenes footage of Queen Bey and her assemble of performers in the weeks, days and moments leading up to Beychella.

Look closely, and you’ll see a moment where 7-year-old Blue Ivy mimicks her mother’s choreography and twirling her head. Bey’s toddler twins Rumi and Sir also make a quick yet adorable appearance. This is proof that the documentary will come with plenty of never-before-seen footage that offers insight into Beyoncé’s private world.

The trailer is set to the voiceover of a Maya Angelou interview. The recording comes from Angelou’s 2013 interview on George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight. It was one of the last sit-down interviews she did before her death in May 2014 at age 86.

In it, the literary icon says,

“What I really want to do is be a representative of my race, of the human race. I have a chance to show how kind we can be, how intelligent and generous we can be. I have a chance to teach and to love and to laugh.”

Toward the end, an interviewer asks Angelou, “What advice would you have to give to this generation?.” Angelou responds, “Tell the truth, to yourself first, and to the children.”
