WhatsApp has announced that its desktop apps for both Mac and PC are getting voice and video calls. The apps will get end-to-end encrypted calls to other WhatsApp users on computers like its mobile devices.
The messaging service offers the service on its mobile apps for Android and iOS. It started testing the desktop calling feature with a small group of users at the end of 2020.

However, with the announcement, the feature is now available to all WhatsApp users on desktop. This also means you can make calls across all the company’s apps on any device. However, the difference is that the desktop versions will not support group calls just yet. The company says it will expand its offering on the desktop to accommodate this in the future, but it doesn’t say when.
To use the new video calling feature on your desktop, you must be a WhatsApp user on mobile. Also, you have to download the desktop app on either Mac or PC. After installing the app on your pc, you’ll need to link both apps by scanning a QR code to log in on the desktop app. This will give you access to the desktop version of your mobile account.
The end-to-end encryption also means that WhatsApp and Facebook will be unable to listen to your video calls on the desktop app, according to the company.
