“Euphoria”: You Have To Watch HBO’s Teen Drama Series

Love. S*x. Drugs. Trauma. Violence. These all seem like complicated subjects reserved for adults. But in HBO’s teen drama series, “Euphoria“, these are the things that a group of high school students deals with on a daily basis. “Euphoria” is an intense TV show that shows modern-day teenagers, Rue, Kat, Jules, Maddy, Nate and Cassie, explicitly stumbling through unchartered territories in their lives. If you have not seen it yet, here are a few reasons to check it out.

1. It is relatable

At its core, “Euphoria” is a show about identity. You may not be a drug addict like Rue, but you will definitely relate when she talks about how overwhelming it can be to be alive and how she would give anything to make it just stop. Or maybe, you will understand Kat’s transformation from being the fat girl to a closeted dominatrix. Either way, there are some characters that you cannot help but see yourself in. It is also real and unpatronising about mental health issues.

2. The characters are lovable

While watching “Euphoria”, you cannot focus on only one character. Everywhere you look, there’s something happening. The characters of the series draw you into their lives and make you pay attention to them. You can’t help but become invested in their stories and care about what happens to them. That is the power of good storytelling and good acting. The actors of Euphoria gave astonishing performances and completely embodied the characters.

3. It is a young people show

Euphoria is a show by young people for young people. The Gen Z show was written by a young person who experienced a lot of these challenges firsthand. There are no misconceptions or ideals tainted by the disconnect between generations. There are very few shows that are as unbiased and unashamed about the struggles of young people. It is not condescending or demonising. It is just what it is. Real. Some might say it is even more real than reality TV.

4. It is aesthetically pleasing

There is no TV show in existence that can brag about visuals as good as “Euphoria”. From neon lights to wardrobes and makeup matching character profiles to the T, “Euphoria” was completely thought through. The colours change to reflect the mood and atmosphere. They grab your attention and refuse to let you go, giving you a glimpse into the meaning of addiction, TV show addiction.

5. The playlist is a whole mood

If there was one word to describe the playlist of Euphoria, it would be “insane”. The songs featured on the show are specially curated by the likes of Labrinth, Drake and even Future. The soundtracks help the emotions in each scene pack an extra punch. You will find yourself Shazaming everything and getting into different genres of life-transforming music.
