Yamaha recently announced an Airpod Max Killer, the $500 YH-L700A headphone with loads of tech. The headphones are currently available on the company’s website has active noise cancellation, transparency modes and its own version of spatial audio.
The company says the headphones are designed to adapt to users and their environment using its proprietary technology. Yahama went with a folding/swivelling earcup design that’s easy to grip.
For $49 lesser, the YH-L700A headphones offer universal spatial audio unlike Apple’s limited version using its own Airpods Pro and Max devices. The company says its headphone technology will convert the regular two-channel stereo into a more immersive 360-degree sound.
Its head tracking spatial audio technology emulates surround speakers with 3D effects. Yamaha’s YH-L700A over the ear headphones have seven different 3D modes, namely cinema, Drama and Music Video (For Visual content), Outdoor Live and concert Hall mode (For performances), Audio Room and Background Music modes.

The Airpods Max killer has simple controls to make phone calls, activate Siri/Google Assistant and control music with easy-yo-find buttons on the earcups.
For Audiophiles, the YH-L700A headphones have Qualcomm’s aptX Bluetooth codec for high-quality wireless sound which the Airpods Max doesn’t support. Yamaha’s Headphones also support high lossless hi-res audio which the company claims have almost no compression.
Battery life is also impressive, the YH-L700A’s have 34 hours when ANC or 3D sound is off. When turned on, battery life drops to about 11 hours.
Shipping with the Headphones is 8 Hz to 40 kHz response analog cables, hard-shell carry case, an aeroplane adapter and a USB-C charging cable. Clearly, the Yamaha Headphones offer more value and technology; at a lower price than Apple’s Airpod Max. Could they also offer better sound?
