Having a best friend is one of life’s biggest blessings. Someone you know always has your back, will listen to your rants and angry drivel, cries with you, celebrates your high moments as their own, holds your hand, and vice versa; it’s amazing support many never get to have.

Best friend relationship last for decades, probably someone you’ve known for the longest, since childhood, high school, or from University days. They’ve been there for you through the thick and the thin.

 

However, according to a study conducted by Scientific American, men and women will have difficulty being close, platonic friends.

 

This is because one party especially males (hey, we didn’t make the rules) tends to misunderstand actions of friendliness to mean s*xual attraction. That being said, it’s not unlikely to grow feelings for your bestie and even become s*xually attracted to them.

 

But is acting on that attraction such a great idea? Most times, it’s not. It’s a different thing entirely if you want to be in a romantic relationship with them as you both can forge an amazing relationship from your already solid friendship.

 

However, just casual s*xual relations with your best pal can be a little tricky to manage. Because really let’s face it, being friends means you already like each other a great deal. One of you both would most likely catch stronger feelings and this will make the entire situation messy.

 

But if you really want to go ahead and have s*x with your bestie, then you must know the rules because you’re crossing into muddy waters.

Know the consequences

Sleeping with your best friend means you’re crossing a line you cannot return from and this can cause a drastic change in your relationship. Ask yourself if you’re ready for such changes. This is necessary because if things go awry, you may end up losing the entire relationship.

Have the s*x conversation before the s*x

If you’ve already made up your mind to sleep with your best pal, then you both should talk about it before jumping into bed. Set boundaries, talk about what would happen if someone catches feelings and the messy situations that may arise.

Be honest

Like literally, this is your best friend who’s seen you at your best and worst so you should be honest with them. If you’re catching feelings, tell them. However, do not expect anything in return. Also, do not go in with the hopes that they’ll start seeing you differently and you both can start a relationship. If you feel this way, you shouldn’t sleep with them at all. Keep the expectations extremely low as this will prevent you from developing emotions.

Don’t stop dating other people

Don’t get too comfortable while sleeping with your best friend because there’s a high potential that you’ll close yourself off when you get involved this way. But you guys aren’t dating, they’re just someone you are having s*x with for the now. So go on dates and see other people as this will keep your “entanglement” in perspective.

You can’t get jealous

Again, this is a friend with benefits arrangement so you can’t get jealous if they see someone else.

Keep it between yourselves

You really should keep sleeping with your friend on the down-low. Not only will people not understand why you both are now involved, it would color the way they see your relationship and best friend relationships in general. Besides its none of anybody’s business what you do behind closed doors.

 

Finally enjoy the s*x to the fullest. There’s no reason not to since you’re already putting your relationship in jeopardy you might as well get the best from it.
