YouTube Announces Shorts Ad Revenue And More

YouTube starts watermarking Shorts videos shared to other platforms

YouTube to start adding watermark to Shorts videos that you share directly to other social media platforms. The feature will first start to appear on Shorts that you create on the desktop version before coming to those created on mobile.

According to Sarah, a YouTube Community Manager, it applies to Shorts that you download from YouTube Studio to share somewhere else. However, it is not yet clear how this will look like.

For TikTok videos share to other platforms, you’ll usually see the creator’s username somewhere on the left of the screen while the video plays and at the end, it shows a TikTok montage and the creator’s name again.

Likely, the YouTube Shorts watermark will show all-through the video. “We’ve added a watermark to the Shorts you download so your viewers can see that the content you’re sharing across platforms can be found on YouTube Shorts,” Sarah wrote.

So long as this does not affect the viewing experience of people on other platforms, this update is a good one. It will give the YouTube product more visibility and direct viewers to the creator’s YouTube channel.

There is no roadmap to when this feature will roll out completely and from the announcement, it sounds like it may take months for it to be active across all mediums and regions.
