Zuckerberg Needs More Than 20% Of Meta Employees Focused On Metaverse

Mark Zuckerberg is ramping up operations at Meta on the metaverse if it is to become more immersive and human within the next five to ten years.

In a recent interview Andrew Ross Sorkin, the tech boss said that he was giving the tech that timeline to become an industry of its own. However, to do that, he would need more people at the company to keep working on improving the software.

Currently, Zuckerberg claims that about 80 per cent of Meta’s staff are still working on its social media suite — Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram.

The interview was part of the New York Times DealBook Summit, with the CEO and the journalist giving viewers a peek at how impressive the metaverse tech is:

Once again, we are treated to just how deep the Facebook founder’s faith is in the metaverse, despite it swallowing more that $15 billion in losses so far ($10.2 billion in 2021 and $5.77 billion in the first seven months of 2022).

In addition, the call for more hands on a project that is not yet yielding any profit may increase doubts among investors who are seeing the mass layoffs happening in the tech industry.

Although, for Mark Zuckerberg, who created Facebook at while still in a college, doubt is not a new thing. “Scepticism doesn’t bother me too much. We’ve had doubters the whole time,” he had said.

This time, though, things are different as he is no longer a young programmer with a vision but a tech executive with a billion-dollar company to run and investors breathing down his neck.
